In Loving Memory of Anita May

April 5, 1956 – September 23, 2026

If you knew Anita May, you knew someone who brought energy, flair, and a touch of rebellious spirit everywhere she went. On September 23, 2026, at the age of 70, Anita passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Born on April 5, 1956, in Detroit to Alma Brent Edwards and Eddie W. Edwards, Anita was the baby of the family - arriving six years after her older sisters, Carolyn Edwards and the late Jacqueline Woods. Being the youngest, she naturally forged her own path, growing up lively, expressive, and full of poetry and lifelong friendships.

A proud graduate of Henry Ford High School, Anita went on to attend Michigan State University (Go State!). Her sharp communication skills led her first to a role as an information operator at Michigan Bell/Ameritech, before embarking on a long, dedicated career with the United States Postal Service, where she retired after many years of faithful service.

Anita’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her loving children, Carmen Chastine and Michael Chastine (Bianca); her sister, Carolyn Edwards; and her nephew, John “Bo” Kemp. She also leaves behind a rich legacy through her four cherished grandchildren—Cy’an (Michael), Dylan (Caitlin), Angel, and Michael Jr.—and her great-grandson, Warren Edward; and her special great-nieces & nephews - Gabe, Ariel, Ariana and John jr.

She was joyfully reunited on the other side with her beloved parents, Alma Brent Edwards and Eddie W. Edwards, and her dear sister, Jacqueline Woods.

She is also remembered by Michael D Chastine, her former husband and father to her children as well as their younger sibling, Nicholas Chastine.

Anita also held special relationships with a host of cousins in both the Edwards and Brent families.
