Obituary

Charlotte Hardie Smith passed away on 30 December 2025, at Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital, Torrance. She was born on 13 August 1949, in Los Angeles, CA, to Connie Fay Jackson and Charles Hardie, Sr. She married Steve W. Smith, Sr. on 9 August 1967. They welcomed a son and daughter into this union. Though divorced, they remained life-long friends and united in their love and care for their children.

Charlotte earned a BA in American Studies from California State University, CA; a MA in English and Teaching from Tufts University, Medford, MA; and a Graduate Certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy from Saybrook University. She had an extensive career as an English language arts educator at the secondary and college levels. She was a published poet and creative writer, modern and interpretive dancer, and committed to using the creative arts as a catalyst for healing. She is preceded in death by her parents and ex-husband. She is survived by her children, Steve Smith, Jr., and Kimber Smith Miller; grandchildren Aaron Wess, Kassandra Smith, Markus Smith, and Cedrick Smith; and great-grandchildren Aubreigh, Love, True, Jeramiah, Kaylee, Zachariah, Zoe, Avery, Kora, Selena, Catalaya, Jennifer and Stephanie.

She will forever be remembered as a woman who was kind, proud, uplifting, and who demonstrated love as a practice. She will be dearly missed by a vast array of friends and family in this realm, but revered as an ancestor in the beyond.
